Help schools across the country this Giving Tuesday

For Giving Tuesday, members in our top fraternal regions across the country are holding online fundraisers for local schools. Giving Tuesday is an annual day of giving held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Giving Tuesday inspires people to complete acts of kindness and encourages charitable giving in local communities during the holiday season.

Members will fulfill various needs, like supporting music programs, updating playgrounds and purchasing school supplies. Modern Woodmen will match donations dollar-for-dollar, up to $2,500! Meaning your donation of $5 will turn into $10!

Like our name, fraternalism is a peculiar word, but it’s what helps us help our members and their communities.

Members in Franklin are helping Evans Middle School raise money for their Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. The PBIS program saves instructional time by reducing disciplinary issues. By continually teaching and acknowledging positive behavior, the program promotes a productive, safe and conducive learning environment. Schools using PBIS employ a multitiered prevention strategy, using disciplinary data and behavior analysis to create interventions that enhance the overall school climate for all students.

With the money raised, Evans Middle School will purchase cafeteria tables and sports equipment that will be used during the school day to reward positive student behavior. The PBIS program helps build positive learning environments for all students.

Members in Salem are helping the South Central School District Music Department raise money for new equipment. With a growing number of participating students, the district doesn’t have enough percussion instruments.

With the money raised, the district will purchase instruments for students whose parents cannot afford the high cost of renting or purchasing them.  The music students currently have to share instruments across multiple buildings or go without. This fundraiser will help the district purchase enough equipment to serve all. Participation in music is good for students’ cognitive development, academic performance, emotional well-being and social skills.
