Kalady’s Story
Known as “Kalady” by friends and family, Kathryn Osowski kept herself busy throughout high school. She captained the forensics and science teams, worked as a stage manager and headed up her National Honor Society Scholarship Committee. Through NHS, she often coordinated volunteer efforts in her community as well.
Her interest in chemistry was clinched in 2014 when she worked as a cancer research intern in the Whelan Lab at Oberlin College.
“I now know,” she says, “wherever life takes me, I have the curiosity and flexibility to do incredible things.”
Kalady, a Modern Woodmen member from Hartland, Wisconsin, now attends Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. She looks forward to graduating debt-free, thanks in part to a scholarship from Modern Woodmen. Kalady was one of 149 member students who were rewarded in 2015.
“With winning the Modern Woodmen scholarship, I’m going to be able to focus more on my academics and fulfilling those dreams rather than financing the dreams that I have,” she says.
